“RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A SAFE TRIP”

We would emphasise the protective measures recommended for private sport facilities, for the purposes of guaranteeing the safety of our clients.

- Maintain social distance of at least 1 metre except for family groups (relatives who also live together). In the case of relatives who do not live together, 1 metre distance must still be maintained.

- Since it is obligatory to board the ship with a mask, every passenger must provide their own personal safety equipment.

- Wash your hands often and don’t touch your face.

- Sit in permitted areas.

- Do not take part in the trip if you are experiencing symptoms of a respiratory infection.

The Calù Charter team will clean all units on every passenger change and will provide sanitizing gel for it’s clients.

BOARDING

At 9:30 and disembarking at 17:00 at La Spezia (Passeggiata Morin) at the Assonautica pier. If the departure of the boat is delayed for valid reasons (after 10:00), the time missed will be made up on return.

BOOKING

Must take place via e-mail, giving names and phone numbers, and the details of the tour. A confirmation will be sent via e-mail by 10am on the day before the tour begins.

WEATHER

The riviera relaxation tour may be suspended due to bad weather in the case of a weather alert for wind or sea conditions. If conditions do not allow sailing to Cinque Terre, the tour will take place between Portovenere and the islands of Lerici and Tellaro. If the boat is able to leave its mooring, no refund will be provided.

PAYMENT

The passengers hand over the voucher on board and complete their details in the skipper’s passenger list.

LIGHT LUNCH

During the trip, a light lunch will be served which La Spezia style focaccia, both with and without filling, anchovies marinated in oil with tomatoes and Taggiasca olives, pesto, parmesan cheese, Strolghino salami slices, salad, and seasonal fruits. The cold bar will provide prosecco, wine, beer, soft drinks and water.

ITINERARY 1

Departure from La Spezia to Portovenere and from there a coastal route through the Cinque Terre area, pausing at Vernazza or Monterosso. Light lunch at anchor and possibly excursions on land, return to La Spezia

ITINERARY 2

Departing from La Spezia for the area around the islands of Portovenere (Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto), with a stop at Portovenere for a light lunch. Optionally a short excursion into the town of Portovenere, and from there sailing to Tellaro and Lerici before returning to La Spezia.

CLOTHING

Windproof and light, jeans or trousers, shoes with a rubber sole (no black soles), swimming costume, hat and sunscreen.

Boat availability for weekdays, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday;

If the boat has free spaces, Velagiovane reserves the right to add its own clients to the trip, with the boat being available also to clients of other agencies with the same provisions and costs;

The boat used will be selected from those made available by Velagiovane;

On a request for the Riviera Relaxation tour at a weekend or on public holidays, the same list applies as for the private tour on a public holiday.

BOARDING

At 9:30 at the Assonautica pier in La Spezia, or from the Velagiovane pier in Le Grazie, and disembarking at 18:00. It is possible to extend the trip at a cost of €100 per hour. The boat is available to the client to use as they wish, agreeing the route with the skipper as well as the stops on land and for swimming.

BOOKING

Booking must be made by email with payment of the appropriate deposit, stating the client’s name and date of the tour. A confirmation will be sent by e-mail by 10am of the day before the tour.

PAYMENT

The passengers will hand over the voucher to the skipper during boarding and will fill in their details in the list of passengers.

Admire the colourful towns which climb the cliffs from Portovenere to the Cinque Terre, and as you sail, cutting through the blue waters of the Ligurian sea at sunset, you will relax while enjoying a typical Italian aperitivo on the open water, where you can watch the sun unite with the sea!

Aimed at those who want to enter the world of sailing for the first time or for those who have had some short sailing experiences. The beginner sailing course takes place over two weekends or over five weekdays.

I’s purpose is to demonstrate the fundamental principles of sailing and to give an insight into life on board, the spirit of adaptability and sharing, as well as safety on board and organisation of equipment. You will experience first-hand the excitement of navigating with the power of the wind, perhaps discovering a new passion for the ocean and for nature. You will learn the principals of operating a sailboat, the fundamentals of mooring, the essential basic vocabulary for communicating on board, and the main principles of the legislation which governs sailing.

You will stay overnight and eat aboard the cabin cruiser, which you will share with the rest of the crew.

During the course there will be plenty of moments to relax and have fun, such as lunch at the mooring, nights anchored in the roadstead, refreshing dives into the water and discovering the amazing views of the landscape which this sailboat sanctuary is filled with.

The intermediate level courses provide the opportunity to gain more experience in sailing a cabin cruiser. They are intended for those who already know the basics of sailing theory and practice, and want to deepen their knowledge and technique. With our expert instructors at your side, you will get to know the role of skipper, who needs to coordinate and instruct the rest of the crew during the voyage and sailing manoeuvres. You will perfect your sense for adjusting the sails and you will try out the various roles of helmsman and bowman, understanding the importance of coordination of the crew members. Always looking from a collaborative perspective, you will be involved in delicate anchoring operations, mooring and unmooring, learning that every moment on board requires attention, willingness and an active presence.

The BOAT LICENSE for COMMAND AND DRIVING OF LEISURE BOATS is obtained by passing the theoretical and practical exams.

Our accredited instructors will accompany you on this course with the aim of passing the theory (chart work and quiz) and practical (direction and command) exams.

The lessons are spread over a period of time to allow you to absorb every topic covered during the classes twice a week at Le Grazie in Portovenere (SP).

At the end of the course, the theoretical exam will take place at our VelaGiovane base in Le Grazie or at the harbourmaster’s office in La Spezia, while the practical exam for sailing and command will take place in the gulf of La Spezia on board one of our 29-50ft sailboats or a motorboat: the Gobbi pilot boat, 6 metres with 100hp outboard engine, or the 7.5 metre Saver 25 with 120hp inboard engine.

LICENSES

The LICENSE FOR QUALIFIED COMMANDER OF LEISURE BOATS is necessary to drive the following:
-Over 6 miles but less than 12 miles from the coast “License for sail and motorboats up to 12 miles”
-Without any distance limit “License for sail and motorboats without limit”
-With engine power above 30kW (equivalent to 40.8 horsepower)
-With an engine less than 40.8hp if engine size is over 750cc and is two-stroke, if above 1000cc and a four-stroke outboard, if over 1300cc with direct injection and a four-stroke inboard or if over 2000cc, or with a diesel engine.

The sipper course is an advanced course aimed at those who have always wanted to deepen their own theoretical knowledge and refine their skills in sailing a boat independently. You will practise more complex sailing manoeuvres, reducing sails and reefing. You will develop your sense for adjusting the sails at various speeds, improving your confidence in giving orders to the rest of the crew. You will try out mooring and unmooring at sail and the emergency procedures in case of difficulties. You will deepen your knowledge of the equipment and safety regulations, engine management and of the instrumentation on board as well as venturing into various theoretical topics relating to the complex world of sailing and navigation.

The off-shore navigation course is for everyone who has already picked up the theoretical and practical basics of sailing, and wants an introduction to a more substantial nautical experience. Open sea navigation requires you to put into practice all the topics relating to safety, following a route, evaluation of weather conditions as well as experimenting and organising life on board, which involves taking shifts at the wheel through the night. Particularly night sailing is not only a chance to learn, but also an intense experience full of unique excitement.

The course lasts for 4 or 5 days, and is organised during the week from Monday to Friday or over the long weekend, taking advantage of the spring holidays.

Setting sail from our base at Le Grazie (Portovenere), we offer two destinations:

• The island of Capraia and the north of Corsica, followed by return to the departure port.
• Boarding is expected in the morning and the first day is dedicated to planning the sailing, preparing the boat and organising the pantry.

You will set sail in the late afternoon to navigate at night and will reach the destination at dawn. You will have a few days to explore the landscape of secret and fascinating locations, to relax and make the most of the ocean and nature, before leaving the moorings to retrace the route back to Portovenere.

These courses have the scope to dig into those areas which require special attention, whether theoretical or practical, and gain hours of experience in that area. A wide range of topics are covered, and the duration and structure of the course depends on its content.

Sailing is an activity for anyone who wants to experience another way of living.

The in depth courses are available to those with or without a license, who are interested in becoming more independent and safe when in control of a boat in more difficult conditions: open sea and particular weather conditions.

Considering that safety is the number one rule to be followed, it’s important to get first hand experience at sea to fully respect nature and the risks which it can bring. Our objective is to provide you with the necessary tools to experience the world of sailing with ever increasing knowledge and competence.

Between June and September, we organise courses for the younger ones. These courses are a real mix of holiday, fun, discovery and getting familiar with the world of the sea and sailing.

The children will experience a mini voyage (2 possible itineraries) in which they will not only learn sailing techniques but also will take part in games where they need to share with and help out their crewmates. They will experiment with the value of adaptability and life on board in close contact with nature, the beauty of the sea and the respect it demands. They can get involved with the sailing operations on board but also be a part of every moment of the day and so be a part of the fun and good mood.

PROGRAMME AND ITINERARIES:

Sailing between the gulf of La Spezia, Portovenere, Cinque Terre, and the eastern Ligurian coast, landing at some magnificent places such as Sestri Levante, Santa Margherita, and Portofino.

The Tuscan coast, following a route to Capraia and the Isola d’Elba on the trail of the amazing natural landscapes which the archipelago offers.

Disembarkation is planned for Friday afternoon at the port of departure.
